Turn up that dial! From the underground clubs of Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee, by way of hit runs at the La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre comes this sizzling new Broadway musical with heart, soul and energy to burn, arriving on Broadway at The Shubert Theatre (home of the limited engagement of Blithe Spirit) beginning September 23rd!
Set in the turbulent South in the 1950s, Memphis tells the story of Huey Calhoun, a white radio DJ whose love of good music transcends race lines and airwaves. Thanks in part to his passionate persistence, "race" music reaches the center of the radio dial, quickly exploding throughout mainstream America. But when Huey falls for a beautiful black singer he has set on the path to stardom, whether the world is really ready for this music - and their love - is put to the test.
An electrifying theatrical story, Memphis features a book by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change) and an original score by David Bryan, Bon Jovi keyboardist and founding member. Directing is Christopher Ashley (Xanadu) and choreography is by Tony nominee Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys).
